How the deal engine works
If you've ever wondered whether a "deal alert" site is just re-selling an affiliate feed, fair question. Ours isn't. Every alert that lands in your inbox has been scraped, deduplicated, verified against the retailer's live page, and routed through four independent filters before a human editor signs off on the wording. Below is exactly what happens between the retailer changing a price and you receiving the email.
Our crawler pulls the live price, stock status, and shipping region for every phone model in the database from Amazon, Best Buy, Flipkart, Carphone Warehouse, Lazada, JD, and 36 other storefronts. Crawlers run on a rolling 60-minute schedule, with hot SKUs (flagships, last year's flagships, and anything in our editor's watchlist) rechecked every 15 minutes.
A scraper can lie. A cached price, a regional variant, a "was $899" crossed out next to a "now $849" that only applies at checkout — we've seen all of it. Every candidate drop is re-fetched from the retailer's own product URL, and the headline price is diffed against the cart-page total to catch phantom discounts.
If the same Pixel 9 Pro drops on Amazon, Best Buy, and a third-party seller on the same platform within the same hour, you get one alert — not three. The deduplicator groups equivalent offers by model, storage, color, and condition, and keeps the cheapest in-stock option as the canonical price.
Anything below $25 doesn't ping your inbox. The threshold scales with local currency and historic price volatility — a $25 drop matters on a $200 phone, but on a $1,400 foldable we'd wait for $75. Either way, you only hear from us when the drop is worth opening.
The verified drop is pushed to subscribers who opted in for that brand, model, or price ceiling. The same event feeds the next morning's Daily Mobile Brief and, if it's a flagship or a genuinely unusual cut, our deals page hero strip. Editorial copy is templated, then reviewed for tone — no "AMAZING DEAL!!!" all-caps, ever.
