METHODOLOGY · v2025.1
A repeatable, instrument‑led protocol. The same five stages, in the same order, with the same calibrated tools — so a Pixel score and a Galaxy score can be compared without squinting.
The unit is logged by serial, sealed on camera, then opened away from any brand‑supplied briefing materials. Editors do not see the launch deck before the bench does.
A scripted 90‑minute mixed‑use loop (video, gaming, 5G download, idle) under a 25°C climate chamber. We log mAh consumed, peak skin temperature, and throttling onset.
Peak full‑screen nits, APL‑limited nits, ΔE2000 colour error against sRGB and DCI‑P3, and PWM frequency at 1%, 50% and 100% brightness — all on the Konica Minolta CA‑410.
Three Geekbench 6 runs per device (cold / warm / thermal‑steady). Cellular throughput, signal retention and SAR are measured on a Rohde & Schwarz CMW500 wideband radio tester against a baseline reference handset.
A controlled 1 lux and 5 lux scene shot on a tripod with manual focus, repeated across main, ultrawide and 3× telephoto. The RAW files are scored by a panel of three staff testers blinded to the device name.

We name the tools because the numbers only matter if the tools do. Both are recalibrated quarterly by the manufacturer and re‑verified against a reference panel in‑house every Monday morning.
DISPLAY ANALYZER
A high‑speed, high‑accuracy spectroradiometer. Reads luminance from 0.001 cd/m² to 5,000 cd/m² across nine spot sizes — which is the only way to honestly compare a 2,500‑nit Pixel against a 2,800‑nit Galaxy at 1% APL.
RADIO TESTER
A wideband radio communication tester covering LTE, 5G NR sub‑6 and Wi‑Fi 7. We use it to log throughput, signal retention under attenuation, and SAR — the three numbers your carrier cares about even if they don't tell you.
